Älvkarleby
- one of Europe´s best salmon and brown trout waters
Älvkarleby was the original home of sports fishing in Sweden, in the early 20th century.
Today, brown trout and salmon do not swim up as far as Älvkarleby Sportfiske, so the large numbers of these fish are due to extensive seeding. |
Brown trout and salmon fishing is mainly concentrated in A section, a 2-km stretch of running water oín the middle of the community - with the fishing office, restaurants and accommodations right nearby.
Above all, Älvkarleby Sportfiske is famous for the numbers of brown trout - over 4,000 per year in recent years. The record weight for a brown trout is 13.1 kg. The best season are March-April and Sept-Oct.
Summers are for salmon fishing. In the past five seasons, all great salmon years, an average of 850 salmon have been caught per year, with an average weigth of 9.0 kg. Every year, salmon weighing over 20 kg are caught.
