Svartådalen – Sweden at its most beautiful
| Svartådalen in Västmanland is a friendly Swedish agricultural area, with a lake system joined by the snaking Svartån river. |
 |
|
Some lakes
are perfect
for bathing,
some
for fishing,
and
birdwatchers
will love the
wetlands. |
 |
| The area is known for its bird life, from early spring to late autumn. Thousands of swans stop here to rest in spring and cranes in autumn, offering easy access to grand experiences. |
 |
|
If you’re a true
bird fan,
the area boasts
white-tailed
eagle,
corncrake,
black tern and
curlew. |
 |
| Explore the Svartådalen valley by canoe, bicycle, on horseback or on foot. Excellent fishing and plenty of opportunities to see moose and beaver up close. |
 |
|
Ebba Brahe’s summer-house on Braheholmen island in Lake Fläcksjön, and the runestone with Sweden’s oldest known written tribute to a woman – the Odendisa stone – are two of the area’s most famous historical objects.
In Västerfärnebo, up to 2,000 visitors gather on the last Saturday in July for the annual accordion festival. |
